Communications Intern
Position Description The APHL communications intern provides support to the communications department. Activities include scanning the news regularly, writing weekly newsletter, distributing publications; managing databases and writing projects as assigned. Schedule 20 hours per week, flexible hours based on class schedule. Full-time internships can be arranged to meet graduation requirements; however, remuneration is available for 20 hours/week only. Responsibilities 1. Complete scan of news coverage using LexisNexis and other search tools. 2. Organize and abstract articles for weekly newsletter. 3. Assist with production and dissemination of publications. Bid printing and other jobs as requested. 4. Assist with research and other administrative work. 5. Maintain APHL media database and photo library. 6. Additional duties as requested. Employment Standards Education/Experience: 1. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree preferably in a related area such as communications, public health or community health. 2. One to three years of work experience required. 3. Some experience with database systems desirable. Knowledge of: MS Office applications and Internet research. Skill at: Self-starter with ability to work in a team environment and independently. Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills plus Internet research, data entry, general office administration.
