Responsibilities
|
- Be recognized as a company specialist in loss prevention and process safety management
- Review and provide design recommendations for new projects and proposed facility modifications to ensure conformance with process safety and loss prevention codes, standards and procedures
- Promote, facilitate or lead Process Hazards Analyses (for example HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, etc)
- Develop and/or provide input to engineering specifications relating to process safety and loss prevention
- Conduct or review safety studies, equipment specifications; datasheets and vendor documents for firefighting equipment
- Conduct, review or assist in the development of the following safety related studies and consequence risk analyses:
- Fire risk and explosion risk analysis
- Gas dispersion and radiation risk analysis
- Fire protection and detection systems analysis; and
- Risk based facility siting and escape evacuation risk analysis
- Develop and/or update process safety management and loss prevention standards and procedures
- Develop key performance indicators for monitoring and improving process safety and loss prevention performance
- Conduct or participate in process safety management, loss prevention audits and incident investigations
- Participate in pre-start-up safety reviews
- Educate and train business units, projects, technical and field operations staff in loss prevention and process safety management best practices
- Represent our client’s in industry peer groups related to loss prevention and process safety
- Liaise with projects, corporate HS&E, operations and maintenance on loss prevention and process safety issues |
Qualifications
|
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Engineering (chemical or mechanical preferred) is required and a M.Sc. in Engineering is an asset
- A Professional Engineer designation recognized APEGGA or eligible for registration with APEGGA.
- Must have H2S Alive, First Aid CPR and Safe Driving Certifications
- Minimum 15 years of loss prevention experience in the upstream, onshore oil and gas industry
- A strong working knowledge of process safety management and loss prevention related industry standards
- Solid career background in process safety management and loss prevention related to the oil and gas industry with 15 years' experience in evaluation, development and coordination of process safety management and loss prevention activities
- Demonstrated experience in educating and training business units, operations, maintenance and engineering staff on loss prevention requirements, techniques and methods
- Knowledgeable in upstream oil and gas operations (onshore and offshore), refinery, upgrader, gas plant and SAGD operations
- Strong knowledge on Process Hazards Analysis methods, including HAZOP and LOPA
- Strong analytical trouble shooting skill and excellent attention to detail
- Strong management skills and the ability to plan and direct programs while only given broad objectives
- Familiar with incident investigation processes
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of work tasks and priorities
- Strong mentoring and leadership skills
- Strong decision making and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) |
