General Practice in Australia involves the acceptance of patients with a range of diseases and conditions where the initial diagnosis and decision with regards to treatment or referral needs to be made. General Practice also requires a willingness to provide preventative care to patients and also ongoing or continuing care for patients with chronic conditions. General Practitioners in Australia see unselected patients, that is, patients are not referred to them by other practitioners. General Practitioners are often the first point of medical contact for patients, families and the community in which they work.

Responsibilities
Preference is given to doctors with postgraduate General Practice (GP) qualifications, plus a minimum of three (3) years of full-time postgraduate overseas GP experience. Doctors without postgraduate GP qualifications MUST have at least five (5) years of full-time GP experience in another country and completion of the AMCMCQ or be eligible for the AMC Certificate of Advanced Standing.

Requirements
Overseas trained applicants interested in working in Australia for at least 12 months are welcome to apply. Please note that the English language skills registration standard is mandatory for registration. Other selection criteria may also apply.
