The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific nations can manage, control, and develop their fisheries now and into the future.
We are primarily located in Honiara, Solomon Islands, working with 17 member nations that include Australia, the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Vessel Monitoring System to join our team in Honiara, Solomon Islands on a fixed-term 3-year contract. In this role, you will identify and implement improvements to the VMS and Vessel Register services made available to FFA members and other clients, including in respect of new technology and the efficiency of the VMS.

You will receive a competitive salary package circa US$93,355 - $129,681 (tax-free, for citizens of most countries), commensurate with your skills and experience.
This includes superannuation, paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or an additional cash supplement. We reimburse all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also available for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation.
Education for dependent children is reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is studying overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.
Relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara and accommodation assistance also available.

Make the ultimate sea change! You will be working out of beautiful Honiara, with ample opportunities to travel to all 17 members nations and make a real difference in the Pacific.
Working under the Director of Fisheries Operations, you will manage the operations of the FFA Vessel Monitoring System and the FFA Vessel Register, to effectively utilise the resources available to FFA for this purpose.
Your core duties will fall in the following categories:
- Provision of effective policy advice
- Strategic planning
- Effective management and support
- Build and maintain effective networking relationships
You will also engage with a wide range of stakeholders from a variety of local, national, regional, and international agencies to promote and protect the rights of those employed on fishing vessels.
Make a real impact on working conditions in the Pacific
We are looking for a proactive and systematic leader that can effectively mentor and lead a team. To thrive in this role, you will possess a tertiary qualification in Fisheries, Information Management or a related field and have a minimum of five years' experience managing a team of five people or more. You will also have a minimum of five years' experience in fisheries compliance and/or vessel registration programs.
Your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you can work in a multi-functional environment and team while developing strong working relationships with stakeholders of various cultural backgrounds, including Non-Government Organisations, Government Employment Agencies, and the fishing industry itself.
Our ideal candidate will also possess strong financial management skills and be able to effectively manage large-scale projects. Moreover, you will be skilled with working in Windows, UNIX and networked environment and be able to effectively use GIS applications.
